High-Quality News Aggregator App Developed with USAID Support

April 29 – The Center for Democratic Reforms and Media NGO and Democracy Governance in the Eastern Ukraine (USAID DG East Project), in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science, have developed a mobile application called Virno (Correctly) which aggregates news from trustworthy, professional Ukrainian media. The application is available at the AppStore and Google Play and is based on the Institute of Mass Information’s (IMI) Whitelisting initiative. With the support of the USAID Media Program in Ukraine project, IMI experts monitor online media for professional standards and publish a Whitelist of trustworthy media on a semi-annual basis.

According to IMI’s February 2021 report, the Whitelist includes eight media outlets: Suspilne.media (Ukraine’s public service broadcaster), RFE/RL (Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty), Hromadske.ua, Ukrinform, Bykvu, Ukrayinska Pravda, Liga.net, and Weekly Mirror. Around 98% of news reports published by these media follow all journalistic standards.
