IMI Finds Just Five National News Websites are Financially Transparent
October 13 – The Institute of Mass Information (IMI) reported that just five leading national news websites (among the 50 news sites they monitored) demonstrated financial transparency. According to IMI’s methodology, the websites are ranked as transparent if they publish financial reports or mention sources of funding on their websites.
The five transparent media are:
- Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty – which states on its website that it is funded by the U.S. Congress through the U.S. Agency for Global Media; and
- Ukrinform, Hromadske.ua, Suspilne (UA:PBC), and ІСТV – which traditionally publish their financial reports online.
Financial transparency has improved slightly in the past year, according to IMI. In 2020, IMI research indicated that two national news websites out of 50 were financially transparent – Ukrinform and Hromadske.ua.
