Internews Ukraine Launches Audience Understanding and Digital Support Project for Ukrainian Media
January 10 – Internews Ukraine (IUA), as part of Internews’ Audience Understanding and Digital Support project supported by Sweden, announced a call for proposals for innovative projects to improve media sustainability and better engage audiences.
The successful applicants will receive grants averaging £3,500 British pounds (US$4,585) and mentoring support from Internews Ukraine experts to develop and refine their editorial strategies.
The grant competition aims to help media find new forms of content, increase the size of their audience and improve audience engagement, attract and/or increase advertising/partnership revenues, and technically improve their media. To achieve these goals, the project proposals should be designed according to the following requirements:
• The information section must detail development of narrowly specialized thematic content, coverage of special topics, and production of a series of stories that will help attract new audiences. These activities must be implemented between April and November 2020; and
• The technical section must detail the launch of online applications and newsletters, applying sub-services, search engine optimization or implementation of other technical solutions to increase the audience. These activities should be completed by the end of August 2020.
As a result of the competition, IUA will select four newsrooms to receive grants in the amount of £3,500 on average for implementation of the projects to improve the newsrooms’ digital content production and technical basis. Winners will receive the support of professional mentors and media experts during the implementation of the projects (until the end of 2020).
The competition is open to all types of media (except state and municipal) – internet, print and electronic (television and radio), as well as convergent media combining several types.
Media working with or intending to engage a female audience through the project are encouraged to apply.
