Ternopil Press Club Trains Regional Media Workers in Online Design and Content Production
September 16-18 – Ternopil Press Club conducted two trainings in Ternopil for 26 managers and media workers from outlets in Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytskyi, Kharkiv, Poltava, Odesa, Zakarpattia, Zhytomyr and Lviv regions. The topics of the trainings were determined by the urgency of the problems and tasks local media are currently facing. “Local media in the context of digitalization: news, storytelling and monetization,” a training lead by Olga Omelyanchuk, a reporter for the online magazine Reporters and contributor to the site of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, focused on how to distribute content and maintain a balance between a newspaper and its online publication; how to develop monetization during a crisis (in particular, the ability to sell a newsrooms’ expertise); where to look for interesting news; and why the media should introduce storytelling to a wide audience.
In “Online content for the media. Visualization of content for social networks and sites,” Olha Pavlenko, who has been developing modern design for the media for the last 15 years, focused on the best practices and tools for creating visual content. Participants learned how to use special software to design media content. During practical classes, journalists analyzed their own publications using new knowledge, looked for branding opportunities, and created their own templates for production of online content.
