TOM14 and CEDEM Strengthen Regional Media Legal Capacity
February 8 – Twenty-four media lawyers with the “Svoi Liudy” (Our people) platform, representing 18 Ukrainian cities, participated in the Kyiv workshop “Copyright Protection in Ukraine,” organized by TOM14 in partnership with the Center for Democracy and Rule of Law (CEDEM).
Alina Pravdichenko, a CEDEM media lawyer, explained how lawyers can protect the copyright of their clients and minimize the risk of violations of copyright law. In addition to theoretical knowledge, the participants gained skills in protecting their clients through practical real-life exercises.
Apart from the educational component, the purpose of this training was to strengthen networking among media lawyers from different regions of Ukraine.
“I have been helping journalists for four years. The rights of journalists for freedom of speech are very often violated in Odesa. This impedes journalistic activity, and sometimes journalists are persecuted. That is why I stood up for their rights,” commented Vitaliy Matveyev from Odesa about his motivation for participating in the training.
