UA:PBC host Andriy Dikhtiarenko highlights information gaps in liberated areas

May 23 – The Institute of Mass Information published an interview with Andrii Dikhtiarenko, editor-in-chief of the Media Program in Ukraine’s partner Realnaya Gazeta, host of the United News telethon, and anchor of the “New Countdown” political talk show on Suspilne (UA:PBC).
Dikhtiarenko touched upon risks of the potential local elections in the occupied areas, growing anxiety in the Luhansk community amid the counteroffensive of Ukrainian Armed Forces, and people trying to relocate. Dikhtiarenko raised the issue of the information gap in the recently liberated territories. While territories occupied in 2014 have established their strategies for getting reliable information despite the restrictions and disinformation, communities occupied in 2022 live in an information desert and are more vulnerable to Russian propaganda. He highlighted the role of journalists who relocated from the occupied areas but continue serving their audience by reaching out to people via social media.
